The Bald Soprano

Wed 23 Jan – Sat 2 Feb 7.30pm, £5

Ionesco’s absurdist masterpiece takes a humorous journey into the English language and how it has defined what it means to be British.  Fusing original text with pop culture, this energetic adaptation explores the power of language in contemporary London and captures the essence of modern life with reference to mobile phones, MySpace, Facebook and Oasis.

Cause an Effect

Wed 23 – Sat 26 Jan 8pm, £2

8 Royal Court young writers, 8 Oval House young actors, and 4 Young Vic Directors: could you possibly get more young and fresh talent in one space? What happens when you throw 20 dynamic young artists from different disciplines into a project with no parameters? Join us for a week of short play readings written and developed for 33% London.

A selection of innovative shorts presenting an alternative view of the Big Smoke, followed by a critical debate of the issues raised.

Sat 2 Feb, 8pm – Flash Mob, £2

Max is dead.  Who’s to blame?  A dark tale of suicide, revenge… and Bluetooth.

An interactive evening of film, performance and debate.  Amidst a nationwide epidemic of knives, guns and gangs infesting our communities, the award winning Red Room invites you to participate in a timely platform investigating ‘Why are we afraid of our young?’

Tamasha Theatre

Lyrical MC

Wed 6 –Thu 7 Feb 7.30pm, £5

A lively new production from Tamasha, which invites us into the private lives of young people in Britain’s secondary schools.  As we tune into their lyrical daily chat, a revealing subtext of stories and dreams, posing and posturing, allegiances and rivalries emerges.  Created from real life stories devised through workshops with young people, and performed by Southwark-based youth theatre REACT, Lyrical MC offers a rhythmic, multilingual journey through a typical school day.

Wed 6 Feb, 8pm – We’re Here Because, £2

A physical theatre performance exploring the parallel experiences of young soldiers in the First World War and modern day Iraq

Thurs 7 Feb, 8pm – Scenarios by Collective Artists, £2

Developed through interviews and workshops with a group of young parents from Lewisham, Scenarios uses music and drama to tell the stories of those young people who from naivety to the search for love found themselves dealing with scenarios that should have waited until they grew up.

Fri 8 Feb, 8pm – God Coughs Uncomfortably, £2

Lucy has traded her soul to the Devil – boyfriend Ricky is on a mission to get it back.

But who ever said the Devil played fair?

Sat 9 Feb, 8pm – Freedom 21: Welcome to MOPAC, £2

In a totalitarian future, six teenagers submitted to the Ministry of Politics and Control await their day of freedom.

Fri 8 Feb 7.45pm, £2

Theatre Royal Stratford East Youth Theatre and Oval House Youth Theatre unite to present a night of play readings inspired and written by the young people of East London: 3 different plays of 3 different styles exploring the universal themes of home, relationships and belonging.

Training for established arts practitioners exploring arts practices that address the needs of vulnerable and volatile young people

Training for 18-25 year olds exploring ways of planning workshops when working with young people as a drama facilitator

Sat 9 Feb 2.00-6.30pm – Making your way as a theatre artist, £5

Training for 18-25 year olds exploring ways to develop and sustain artistic practice, and make the jump from being a youth theatre member to a professional artist
